Minimalism is tempting;
the way sunlight hits the midcentury desk we picked up in Connecticut is just
how we pictured it.
Strong, dark wood;
brass pointed feet;
curved just so.
But then,
we get busy.
Magazines, prescriptions, grocery lists.
And in a frenzy
we toss it all and swear.
“Never again.”
Until months later,
that funeral program glances at me
when I’m looking through the drawer for a pen.
You can’t get rid of it all.
